Pali Wine Co. will open a tasting room in San Diego’s Little Italy district on October 19. Located at 2130 India Street, the tasting room features Pali’s diverse lineup of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines, as well as those from its sister label, Tower 15, featuring Rhone and Bordeaux varieties grown in the Central Coast. The location also offers a rotating selection of eight “fresh” wines, blended straight from the barrel to keg, which will be available for tasting or for carry-out by growler.

His Rise & Shine Restaurant Group now has three Fig Tree locations (PB, Hillcrest & Liberty Station), operates the recently launched Como Ceviche in the East Village, and packs the house at two locations of his Breakfast Republic eateries (North Park & Liberty Station). We have learned that Engman has plans to open at least three more Breakfast Republic outposts - one in the space that formerly housed Firefly Grill & Wine Bar in Encinitas, another at the former Zanzibar Cafe in downtown San Diego, and one more at an undisclosed location in Carmel Valley. He will also open a pizza restaurant in North Park - Pizza Republic.

Once again, San Diego craft breweries cleaned up at this week's 30th annual Great American Beer Festival competition in Denver, Colorado, taking home 18 medals including 8 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze, with Karl Strauss Brewing Co. leading the pack with two gold medals, two bronze medals and the coveted “Mid-Size Brewing Company of the Year” award. Overall 286 medals were awarded to some of the best commercial breweries in the United States, plus three GABF Pro-Am medals to teams of amateur homebrewers paired with professionals.
