San Diego Council on Literacy will host its eighth annual Eat.Drink.Read at its new venue, the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park, on Thursday, May 18, from 5:30-8pm. This tasting event & fundraiser will give foodies the chance to savor bites prepared by the city’s finest chefs who will create imaginative dishes inspired by their favorite literature while area brewers, distillers and winemakers will also offer libations. Wokcano Asian Restaurant & Bar And Islands Restaurants To Enter The Shoppes At Carlsbad

The Shoppes at Carlsbad has announced that two restaurants with deep local ties and strong consumer loyalty will be opening locations at the lifestyle center as part of the multi-phase renovation of the retail destination. The beach-themed Islands eatery and bar will occupy 4,500 square feet and offer a menu of burgers, sandwiches, and more, while Wokcano Asian Restaurant & Bar (“Wokcano”) will open in a 7,000 square foot space (plus a 1,500 square-foot patio) and serve a savory selection of fresh sushi, maki rolls and more. Islands is expected to join The Shoppes at Carlsbad’s dining mix in the early fourth quarter of 2017, while Wokcano will open in early 2018.

After losing its figurehead celebrity chef earlier this year, owners of the bi-level concept have decided to rebrand and transform it into the 2nd outpost of its sister restaurant Romesco Mexiterranean Cocina, which should be completed by this June.
