Westfield UTC to Host Inaugural 'Uncasked' Event | Outdoor Neighborhood Craft Brew Fest Celebrates Local Brewers, Chefs and Musicians Saturday, April 5

Westfield UTC has announced its inaugural Uncasked neighborhood craft brew fest, celebrating San Diego’s exceptional brewing community and a new signature event in the center’s ongoing initiative to provide local residents unique entertainment offerings that reflect and embody the San Diego lifestyle. On April 5 from 4-7pm, the self-guided beer tour will give attendees the opportunity to sample offerings from 8 different local craft breweries, culinary bites from some of Westfield UTC’s gourmet dining options and live performances by award-winning local musicians - all within the center’s relaxed, open-air setting. 100% of the event proceeds will benefit local non-profit, the San Diego Brewers Guild, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and increasing the visibility of fresh, locally brewed beer through education and participation in community events.

Chef Amy DiBiase’s highly anticipated new dining concept, Tidal, will launch on April 10 on the west shore of Paradise Point Resort & Spa’s 44-acre island. Set in what was once a private home in the 1960s, the new 3,000-sq. ft. restaurant will offer panoramic waterfront dining on San Diego’s Mission Bay. Joining executive chef Amy DiBiase is Chef Kyle Bergman, who recently left his post at La Valencia. On February 17, 2014, Paradise Point's signature waterfront restaurant Baleen closed to make way for this new concept.

Sneak Joint left the space a mess after the owners inexplicably vanished on their employees and creditors back in December 2012, but fortunately, the space at 3844 Mission Boulevard has been taken over and completely renovated for the opening of Single Fin Surf Grill, a surf-themed, modern bar and restaurant set to open this April in Mission Beach.

Just In Time for Baseball Season - Stone Brewing Tap Room to Open Adjacent to Padres' Petco Park

On Tuesday, March 25, Stone Brewing Tap Room opens on 8th Avenue and J Street in the space previously occupied by Wine Steals/Proper Gastropub, in the Simon Levi Company building adjacent to Petco Park. The space includes a pizza oven and first floor seating looking out on Petco Park, so in addition to Stone's line up of special releases and year-round craft beers, expect flatbreads and views of the San Diego Padres' home field. General Manager and Partner, Erick Castro of Polite Provisions officially launches his new monthly cocktail education series on Monday, April 7.  The series, dubbed the Spirit Society, is dedicated to providing a fun, highly educational, hands-on learning experience in the world of cocktails. Rather than attempting to cram a broad spectrum of bartending knowledge into a single class, each two-hour session will hone in on one specific topic or spirit.  Classes are open to the public and limited to 12 attendees in order for Erick to give invaluable one-on-one attention. Each imbiber will have his or her own personal workstation complete with all the necessary jiggers, strainers, glasses and ingredients to mix up three distinct cocktails alongside Castro.

Armando's The Green Flash has been a landmark of Ocean Front Walk in Pacific Beach since 1990 , but the restaurant/bar at 701 Thomas Avenue will soon close its doors to be taken over by the crew behind Cabo Cantina, PB Cantina and Fiesta Cantina. The Cabo brand's owner Milton Zampelli will reportedly keep the location restaurant-centric rather than his usual 2-for-1 drink special, Mexican-inspired, rowdy "cantina."
