Join celebrated Chef Adam Cho of Katsuya by S+ARCK, for a sumptuous culinary exploration of sushi and sake pairings at “The Art of Sushi & Sake,” the latest Andaz Salon event. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 6 pm, beginning with sake tasting in the Katsuya by S+ARCK atrium.  Guests will then move upstairs to the Ivy Rooftop at Andaz San Diego for an interactive lesson in the art of sushi making followed by another paired tasting.

The 4th Annual San Diego Spirits Festival took over Downtown's Broadway Pier and showcased all things booze to a packed house of tipsy participants.  Live music, bartender showdowns, chef demonstrations, food trucks, photo ops, and plenty of spirit samples were offered on two beautiful San Diego days.  We drank, we saw, we missed Ron Jeremy!  Epic fail on our part, but there's always next year!

San Diego's very own Stone Brewing Co. has donated $86,373.61 to ReBuild Waterbury and $30,000 to Waterbury Good Neighbor Fund for efforts to restore Waterbury, Vermont, a community that was damaged by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.  The proceeds are from the sale of the collaboration beer, The Alchemist / Ninkasi / Stone More Brown Than Black IPA, brewed in December 2011 with Ninkasi Brewing Company in Eugene, Ore. and The Alchemist Pub and Brewery in Waterbury.  The beer was sold in 17 states, including Vermont.

A recent study of ancient remains has found that cancer is a man-made disease fueled by the excesses of modern life, specifically the result of pollutants and poor diet. Could that be true? Coupling that potential revelation with a burgeoning series of events, including: massive egg and meat recalls due to salmonella and E. coli outbreaks; a recent study linking pesticides in food to autism and ADHD; the debate over labeling genetically modified foods and evidence showing the danger of GMOs; the success of food-production documentaries such as Food, Inc. and The Future of Food; and the heated debate on allowing the first genetically modified meat into the American food market, we thought it necessary to take a closer look at what goes into the cultivation and production of our foods and what that means to us.
