Mission Beach is turning 100 in 2014! The Mission Beach centennial celebrations continue with the Taste of Mission Beach, taking place on Thursday, April 10 from 5–9pm. Eighteen restaurants in the community are participating, including The Mission, Rubicon Deli, Sandbar Sports Bar& Grill, Bahia Resort Hotel’s Café Bahia, and Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa’s The Atoll.

The San Diego Brewers Guild (SDBG) continues the tradition of bringing together the best of craft beer at the 3rd Annual Harrah’s Rhythm & Brews Music and Craft Beer Festival along “Hop Highway” in the heart of Vista, California. Taking place on Saturday, May 3 from 12-4pm,  SDBG’S new spring event will feature 50 craft breweries, 9 musical acts on 3 stages, a homebrew contest and local restaurants, with a portion of revenues from the event being donated to the festival’s 501(C)(3) charity partner Relay for Life.

Davanti Enoteca in Del Mar Promotes Michael Nogera to Executive Chef

Davanti Enoteca at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center has announced the promotion of Michael Nogera to the position of executive chef. In his new role, Nogera will lead the kitchen and bring creativity and passion to the award-winning restaurant known for its rustic Italian cuisine. Nogera began as sous chef at Davanti Enoteca in April 2013 with ambitions to one day head the restaurant’s kitchen. Earlier positions include working in the Las Vegas kitchens of the esteemed Michael Mina Restaurants and Vox Wine Lounge as well as Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg, CA.

Chef/Partner Chris Idso has raised Pacifica Del Mar’s Ocean Bar with a completely revitalized happy hour menu, making this the most significant change the bar has seen in over a decade. The menu now features an eclectic approach to midday fare at half the price, like lobster pretzel sliders ($4.50 during HH) with chilled Maine lobster salad and Old Bay aioli and goat cheese risotto arancini ($3 during HH) with San Marzano sauces and truffle cream. A rotating selection of flat breads like seasonal veggie and honey cured bacon with arugula pesto and a variety of tacos like blackened fish and pulled pork ($2.50 during HH) are part of the lineup as well.

San Diego alternative rock station 91X officially announced this year’s “91X X-Fest,” happening Friday, May 30 at Sleep Train Amphitheatre. Performing artists include 311, Panic! At The Disco, Iration, Phantogram, Bleachers, Kongos, Skaters, Cherub, and Sir Sly. A total of 12 bands will pack the final line-up. The remaining three bands on the bill, including a co-headlining act, will be announced on Monday, April 21.

OB Noodle House's second location at 4993 Niagara Street in the space previously occupied by The Blue Parrot is set to open to the public on Sunday, May 4, and it couldn't come soon enough. Since "The Noodle House" appeared on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in August 2013, waits have been insane, frequently more than 2 hours during peak times. As regular visitors of the Noodle House, we long for the days of 10 minute waits and very much look forward to #2.

Chef Amy DiBiase’s highly anticipated new dining concept, Tidal, will launch on April 10 on the west shore of Paradise Point Resort & Spa’s 44-acre island. Set in what was once a private home in the 1960s, the new 3,000-sq. ft. restaurant will offer panoramic waterfront dining on San Diego’s Mission Bay. Joining executive chef Amy DiBiase is Chef Kyle Bergman, who recently left his post at La Valencia. On February 17, 2014, Paradise Point's signature waterfront restaurant Baleen closed to make way for this new concept.

On Tuesday, March 25, Stone Brewing Tap Room opens on 8th Avenue and J Street in the space previously occupied by Wine Steals/Proper Gastropub, in the Simon Levi Company building adjacent to Petco Park. The space includes a pizza oven and first floor seating looking out on Petco Park, so in addition to Stone's line up of special releases and year-round craft beers, expect flatbreads and views of the San Diego Padres' home field. Candidate cities submitted proposals to be considered by Stone, which were due by March 15, and today, Stone may have announced, via Facebook & Twitter, Wilmington, North Carolina as the chosen location for its next big project.

Erick Castro Announces the "Spirit Society" Cocktail Class at Polite Provisions

General Manager and Partner, Erick Castro of Polite Provisions officially launches his new monthly cocktail education series on Monday, April 7.  The series, dubbed the Spirit Society, is dedicated to providing a fun, highly educational, hands-on learning experience in the world of cocktails. Rather than attempting to cram a broad spectrum of bartending knowledge into a single class, each two-hour session will hone in on one specific topic or spirit.  Classes are open to the public and limited to 12 attendees in order for Erick to give invaluable one-on-one attention. Each imbiber will have his or her own personal workstation complete with all the necessary jiggers, strainers, glasses and ingredients to mix up three distinct cocktails alongside Castro.
